CCI’s T-Top Bollards Now Queensland Government Approved
CCI Supplies has recently been given approval to become a registered supplier of T-Top bollards by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads.
Bollards and traffic cones have an important role to play in keeping drivers safe, marking out hazards and ensuring that traffic is kept away from construction zones. When traffic needs to be diverted or redirected, it’s generally T-Top bollards that delineate where vehicles should go and help ensure that no accidents occur.
But not all bollards are created equally, and the Queensland Government has introduced a number of stringent mandatory safety standards that bollards will need to comply with.
This is to help ensure the safety of vehicles and pedestrians on the road, and to make sure that any bollards that are being used on main roads are visible and stable.
What are the safety standards?
When it comes to supplying your customers with the equipment they need, it’s important to stay up-to-date with the latest legislation. Your customers deserve the best safety equipment there is, and you want to make sure that whatever you are selling is high quality and compliant.
Under the new Queensland legislation, there are a number of strict approval requirements for the use of bollards on main roads, including:
- Height needs to be at least 750mm and diameter a minimum of 100mm.
- Bollards must be stable under reasonably expected wind conditions and air turbulence from passing traffic.
- Reflective sleeve needs to be 250mm wide and meet Australian Standards AS/NZS 1906.1:2007. It must also be 220mm from the top of the bollard.
While so far only Queensland has enforced these requirements for bollards and traffic cones, other states will be transitioning in the near future.
As a distributor, it’s important to be aware of these new requirements now, so you can ensure you have compliant bollards in stock when your customers need them.
The benefits of our bollards
At CCI, we have both Class 1 reflective (non-compliant) and Class 1W (compliant) bollards available to suit all your customers’ needs, no matter where they are located.
It’s essential that your customers are using the right bollards and equipment for their job sites. If bollards are not in compliance with the law, your customers could face fines and penalties.
The Class 1 one bollards are suitable for general use on construction and job sites, while the Class 1W bollards are compliant for main road projects.
As well as being compliant with the new safety regulations for main roads, the Class 1W bollards are whiter, brighter and can be seen from further away. They also have a wider angled range of reflectivity, which adds to their improved visibility.
Bollards and cones in-demand safety items
As our cities and towns become denser and traffic gets heavier, the demand for traffic bollards and cones is only going to increase.
At CCI, we aim to stay ahead of the curve by providing legally compliant bollards to suppliers in preparation for when the new legislation comes into effect in all states, not just in Queensland. In addition to bollards, we will also have Class 1W traffic cones in stock in early 2017.
